창덕궁 잡상

창덕궁은 1405년 지어진 조선의 궁궐로, 자연 지형을 살린 배치가 아름다워 1997년 유네스코 세계유산에 올랐다. 잡상은 궁궐 지붕의 추녀마루 위에 흙으로 빚어 늘어놓은 작은 조각상이다. 나쁜 기운과 화재를 막는다는 뜻을 담아 격식 있는 건물에 올렸다.

EnglishChangdeokgung is a Joseon dynasty palace built in 1405. Praised for the way its buildings embrace the natural terrain, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Japsang are small clay figures placed in a row along the ridge of palace roofs. They were set on formal buildings to ward off evil spirits and fire.
